Golf The Way It Oughta Be

Mar 26, 2009 02:40 AM  | Ray Dougela

Golf is no longer a sport, it’s become a religion, an eastern one at that. The growing sanctification of golf is a baffling trend. A really annoying one.

Golfers don’t compete; they attempt to transcend their emotions, searching for a still and quiet place inside themselves that will produce the perfect shot and, ultimately, the perfect round.
Never have I heard a larger crock of shit.

Golfers aren't eastern mystics wrestling with the eternal verities of the universe. They're jocks, rich ones.
Golf, the most frustrating game ever devised by man, should be played in a full-bore rage. Hurl clubs. Curse lavishly. Kick stuff. Drink, then drink some more.

To be in a perfect, pastoral setting of genuine natural beauty and then act out like an oil field roughneck on a four-day-methamphetamine-fueled bourbon jag and not get arrested for it ...

That's golf the way it oughta be.

As more a poker player then golfer albeit,...a fat ass, too.  I would like to thank you for your honest evaluation of n about the game of golf.  I have been a volunteer in some classy tournaments. Somewhere, I might have a signed ball, that's only if my dog (long dead) didn't chew and swallow most of it. Russia sends xoxoxo
