Instead, there are some simple steps homeowners can take to make sure they’re maintaining the plumbing properly and keeping it in good condition.
Check For Leaks
Keep an eye on the faucets, tubs, showers, and toilets to watch for leaks. If water seems to be dripping out, even if it’s only a small amount, it is important to take advantage of local plumbing services right away. A small leak can cause significant damage and mold growth if it’s not detected in time. Check for leaks at least weekly, but keep an eye out for them when using any appliances.
Test the Water Pressure
Water pressure gauges make it easy to test the water pressure in the home. Use this on an outdoor faucet or hose and test the pressure.
If it’s too low or too high, the water pressure will need to be adjusted. Homeowners can do this on their own or work with a professional to make sure it’s done right.
Inspect the Pipes

For strong clogs or ones that are too deep, have a professional clear the drains.
Inspect the Water Heater
It is a good idea to inspect the water heater on a weekly basis to check for leaks and other issues. At least once per year, it is a good idea to flush the water heater. If there are any signs of an issue or a significant amount of sediment that appears when the water heater is flushed, it is necessary to call a plumber for help.
Check Outdoor Plumbing
Check the outdoor plumbing for signs of leaks or other issues at least once per month. Make sure they are working as expected, can be turned on and off easily, and that there is no sign of water dripping or leaking.
Before winter, be sure to winterize any outdoor plumbing so it will be safe when the temperatures drop. In the summer, they can be restored to start using them again.
